Edinburgh National Museum

Sunday morning me, my husband and our two little boys dressed up, packed snack for a day, everyone got shoes and jackets on, strapped in the car ready to go shopping. When my husband cleared the car of ice and opened the gate he turned the key and nothing. Battery dead!! Now explain two and four year olds the car is broken and we are staying home.

After we've managed to get kids back inside we decided that that would be a very long day at home so we decided to take a bus to city centre. First few busses wouldn't take us on with the buggy we finally ended up on X95. I was feeling really sick the whole way, deliberating what to do if I can't hold it together. Scenarios like buggy hood or basket came up or jumping to the door.

I was relieved to get out into the crisp sunny morning on North Bridge and proud of myself for not humiliating my family in public. By the time we got to the Princess Mall food court my stomach was healthily growling. After lunch that included chasing my two year old up and down the corridor we headed to the museum.

Our two little beasts run wild once inside. They loved all the technology stuff, pressed every button and climbed everywhere possible. Loudly gasped over the enormous stuffed animals, stomped through the galleries, drawn Chinese pictures and got a bit scared surrounded by mummies. They loved the glass elevator shaft, running towards it giving ME proper anxiety attack, where cold sweat dewed up on palms of my hands, heart hammering in my ears, muscles going into frenzy, I recovered once I realized there wasn't a gap between the glass and the floor. Still, it didn't make me any more comfortable having to go up and down all the time. It wasn't until then, my clever husband found a classic elevator - one that is build into the wall - on the side of the building at the end of our visit, I started to relax. After solid three hours touring all floors of the museum our children got drowsy and annoyed. They loved it so much, they didn't want to leave but after some bragging they cooperated.

On the way home the bus broke down so we had to swap busses but over all it was successful trip!

Unbeatable Brownies

Cherries and an ultimate 70% dark chocolate brownies decadently chocolatey, not too sweet, a light crust without and beautifully moist within with enough salt to cut through the richness. An easy clap.

Fire and Ice

Poems hold some unexplained interest for me. A passion almost and although short, this poem by Robert Frost contains some most beautiful and truthful metaphors applicable to ones life.

So I've made a treasury a long while ago but it's as beautiful now then it was then ..

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Whisky Shmisky

I really didn't pay much attention when my husband started mumbling about whisky lollies. I asked myself 'why on earth would he stuff lollies with 12 years old single malt?'

As i tasted them I had to admit that the texture of the cream butter filing smoothly melting in my mouth tasting the whisky on tip of my tongue accompanied by bitter dark chocolate (which isn't usually my favorite) was well balanced and driving my taste buds into a happy place.

Then I was gob smacked when orders started coming through. Apparently women shoppers were excited to find those for their male family members as Christmas gifts. The smug expression on my husband's face afterwords was picture worthy.

At the end I ended up sending box to my brother in law!

All in all pretty smashing lollies.

Raspberry Marshmallows

Plenty of fresh raspberries are a great counterbalance to the sweet marshmallow, best served as they are or accompanied by melted white chocolate for dipping.

By far the most delicious marshmallows I've ever tasted - sounds corny but true - fresh raspberries are used in this recipe and the taste is one to die for. As you bite into the soft squishy cube the texture on surface is sandy. Inside the cube you find moisture and the flavours start triggering the slightly bitter but very sweet flavours of raspberries.

"Even marshmallow haters like Mr. Humble will gobble them down." (Not So Humble Pie)
